Major Robert Hutchinson, USAF, RET. of Dexter, Michigan passed away on Wednesday, November 30, 2016; he was 93 years of age. Robert, who often went by "Hutch", was born and raised in Ypsilanti, Michigan. He was a retired Major in the United States Air Force. Major Robert Hutchinson, USAF, RET. of Dexter, Michigan passed away on Wednesday, November 30, 2016; he was 93 years of age. Robert, who often went by "Hutch", was born and raised in Ypsilanti, Michigan. He was a retired Major in the United States Air Force. Robert was proud to have served in WWII as a bombardier who flew with a crew in the B-17 aircrafts. Robert was married to Dorothy P. Hutchinson for 70 years before she recently passed away on July 26, 2015. He is survived by their five children: Bernice, Fred (Pat), Frank (Barbara) Ralph (Camille) and Ray (Laura) and seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Robert married Dorothy on April 11, 1945. They began their family in Ypsilanti, but then moved to Dexter in 1963. Robert enjoyed being very active during his retired years. He was a member of The American Legion, The Great Lakes Paddlers and was the founder of The Past Masters Hockey League with whom he skated with until in his mid-80s. Both Robert and Dorothy were avid U of M hockey fans. Robert also wrote a book called My Sister Republics Prevail about his life and his experiences in WWII. Robert was blessed to have lived a very full and long life. He will be greatly missed as well as greatly remembered by the many people who had their lives touched by his. Friends and family will celebrate a Christian Burial on Monday, December 5, 2016 at 11:00 at St. Joseph Catholic Village Church in Dexter; Visitation will be at the church before the service from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Visitation will also be at Hosmer-Muehlig Funeral Chapel on Sunday, December 4, 2016 from 1:00-3:30 p.m. and from 4:30-7:00 p.m. Contributions in his memory may be made to Arbor Hospice Foundation.
